Hello my Beauties!
So… it’s official… Summer is over! The kids are all back in school, the roads are congested again and shops have started stocking their winter woolies… Got myself a cute woolly hat in Penneys (Primark) the other day, despite the fact that I was born with the type of head that should NEVER be framed by a hat (it had sequins stitched into the shape of a cat’s face ok?? Even if all I do is mount it on my wall and look at it’s cuteness, I had to have it!) Ah yes… it’s that time of year again. We can look forward to the steady drop in temperature, the dark mornings and evenings and the gradual addition of Halloween decorations to shops Nationwide!
But hang on, what’s that you say?? Christmas?? Pah, Christmas is four months away. Surely it’s too early to be talking about Christmas! And under normal circumstances; it would be… UNLESS YOU GO TO BROWN THOMAS!!

For those of you reading this who do not live in Dublin or Ireland, and haven’t had the pleasure of walking our Fair City’s streets; Brown Thomas is a large Department Store that specialise in luxury brands (basically they are posh and expensive). I couldn’t believe it when I heard it on the radio a couple of days ago that BT’s (Brown Thomas) have opened their Christmas shop over 120 days in advance of the event itself!! I listened incredulously as people described the festive décor adorning the walls in the store. I’m intrigued as to how the decision to begin selling Christmas items in September came to pass? Did the BT big-wigs all sit around, brainstorming ideas of how to make even more moolah, and one of them chuckled and said; “dya know what would be a hoot lads?? Lets open the Christmas Shop early this year… like, in September!! That’ll get the media talking!”
And a round of applause to whoever that fat-cat was… because they are now the fat-cat who got the cream! The media was awash with Facebook Updates, Tweets and online news updates dedicated to the ghastly scene that was unfolding on Grafton Street, as staff began preparing the site for all the Christmas decorations. I think it’s ridiculous! And it’s the staff in BT’s that I feel sorry for! Having worked in Retail for almost every Christmas since I finished school, I can attest to the fact that when you are surrounded constantly by all of the Christmas paraphernalia for 2 whole months (that’s long enough! Imagine four!?!) it really does just ruin Christmas! Now, don’t get me wrong; I’m no Scrooge! In fact; Christmas is my favourite time of the year! (I have an addiction to buying gifts for people… it’s become an expensive vice…) But introducing the concept of buying Christmas decorations, gifts and pudding (yes, I see you there Marks and Spencers‘, hiding sheepishly behind your Xmas puds!) in September is just so wrong on so many different levels!!
Anyway, what do you think?? For those of you that don’t live in Ireland; what is your own country like (if you celebrate Xmas!)?? I’d love to hear from you and to hear your experiences…
Thank you, beautiful people xxx
